Expected reimbursement while at your job search
- they'll pay for your hotel
- 20% chance they'll buy your airplane tickets (but you'll say what flights you
want)
- they'll cover all your miscellaneous costs (airport parking, etc.)
- you can even bill them $0.325/mile for driving to the airport and for that $5
sandwich you ate in the airport
- you'll start wanting to do multiple interviews on the same trip. Feel free to
try to negotiate time slots which are convenient for you, even if it means
spending an awful lot more money on airfare. If you've got two things in the
same city, feel free to invent some kind of cost-sharing between different
institutions. I would photocopy my receipts and make a cheesy spreadsheet
showing who owed me what. Never had a problem.
- (pleasant) surprise was that some hotels these days have Ethernet in
them. You plug in your machine with DHCP turned on and everything magically
works.
