Macintosh Tools for Downloading PLT Software and Documentation

The main DrScheme software archives are distributed as MacBinaryed Stuffit files. Most Macintosh users already have tools to unpack such a file.

It is impossible at this time for us to build user-friendly Stuffit or Compactor files for our other distribution archives. Macintosh users must download ".gz" files (using binary transfer mode, not text), and then unpack the file using the utilities below.

WARNING: Some users have reported problems when using Stuffit Expander to un-gzip or un-tar our archives. If you have trouble running an executeable after unpacking an archive with Stuffit Expander, please try using gzip and suntar, instead.

In archives with Macintosh applications (MrEd and MzScheme), if you use the tar application instead of suntar, you will have to perform one more step after the main archive in unpacked: individual applications must be converted from MacBinary. The README.MAC file in the distribution package explains this in more detail. The suntar application does this automatically.

Hopefully, we will be able to provide archives in a better format in the future.
