  Sets extra data associated with a given region. This method is not called when the whole buffer is read from a file; in such cases, the information can be read in the header or footer. See section  for more information.

      data : a  wx:buffer-data% object

  Used for cut/copy purposes. Stores information about tag and link positions relative to start.
