The Acacia Parallel File System for the AP1000 Multicomputer
Abstract
Acacia is a parallel file system that was developed at the Australian National University for the Fujitsu AP1000 multi-computer. Acacia automatically distributed data across multiple disks attached to the AP1000 and cached recently used data, although the user could optionally explicitly control the way in which file data was accessed and distributed.
This talk will briefly review the salient features of the AP1000 hardware architecture and its base operating system, CellOS. It will then describe the goals of the Acacia project, the system's overall design, and the application programming interface. Aspects of the design will then be described in more detail, together with appropriate performance evaluations. The talk will conclude with a summary of the lessons learned from the Acacia project.
