Digital Library Support for Education: Two Case Studies - CITIDEL
and NDLTD
Abstract
Just as libraries have played a key role in support of education for
thousands of years, so now digital libraries are assuming a more and
more significant role in the support of teaching and learning. In this
talk we briefly summarize the development of this idea over the last
decade and then focus on two examples, one for computing education (the
Computing and Information Technology Interactive Digital Educational
Library) and one related to graduate education (the Networked Digital
Library of Theses and Dissertations). The first of these should be of
practical benefit and interest to faculty and students in Computer
Science. Furthermore, in the main part of the talk, we discuss computer
science research at Virginia Tech that relates to these applications,
spanning the range from theory development to system construction to
user studies.
