Integrating Active Perception with an Autonomous Robot Architecture

Abstract

Today's robotics applications require complex, real-time, high-bandwidth sensor systems. Although many such systems have been developed, integrating them into an autonomous robot architecture remains an area of active research. In this talk I will describe a behavior-based active stereo system that can provide real-time tracking and gesture recognition. I will also describe a hybrid reactive/deliberative robot control architecture. Then I will show how these two systems are integrated to perform tasks such as pursuing moving agents and attending to several agents at the same time. Videos of working robot systems will be shown throughout the talk.
