Vardi elected to National Academy of Engineering

February 15, 2002 -- The National Academy of Engineering has elected Moshe Y. Vardi, George Professor in Computational Engineering and Computer Science Chair, into its membership, citing him "for contributions to the formal verification of hardware and software correctness."

Vardi, who also serves as the director of the Computer and Information Technology Institute (CITI), is among the 74 members and seven foreign associates selected this year, bringing the total US membership to more than 1,800 and the number of foreign associates to 158. Election to the NAE is one of the highest professional distinctions that can be accorded an engineer.

According to the NAE, membership honors those who have made "important contributions to engineering theory and practice" and those who have demonstrated "unusual accomplishment in the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology."
