My Undergraduate Years, IIT Kharagpur (1995 - 1999)

Awarded the Dr. B.C.Roy gold medal in the year 1999, given to the single outgoing student from the entire graduating batch with the best mix of academics and extra curricular activities.
Awarded Institute Blue for performance in Badminton for IIT Kharagpur. Only candidates with who have represented the university at least three years can be nominated for this award.
Represented IIT Kharagpur 4 times in the yearly inter-IIT sports meet and won a bronze in my first year (1995) followed by three consecutive golds (1996-'99). Inter-IIT Badminton is a team event with a minimum of four players per team.
Obtained an All India Rank of 719 in the IIT Joint Entrance Examination, 1995 among 120,000 (approx) candidates.
Obtained 5^th rank in State Matriculation (10^th grade) Examination of Assam, 1993, out of approximately 90,000 candidates.

My final year project was Content Based Image Retrieval from Image Databases. It was a joint project done along with Mr. Indrajit Bhattacharya under the guidance of Dr. A.K.Majumdar graph - based data model for still images was developed, the focus being on the spatial and topological relations among the domain objects. Then the data - model was extended in the temporal domain to capture the semanctics of video data. A finite state event - driven machine for representation and retreival of videos was devised. The final phase included the design and implementation of a GUI based client - server application for interactive query processing and image retrieval over the network. The efforts for the project led to a paper titled "An Object Oriented Fuzzy Data Model for Similarity Detection in Image Databases" which was published in IEEE Transaction on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Vol 14, No. 5, 2002.

Jointly published a paper in the International Conference of Knowledge Based Computer Systems, Mumbai, Dec 1998. The title of the paper was Depth Estimation by Integrating Multiscale Edge and Region Features from a sequence of Airborne Images . It was under the guidance of Dr. Jharna Majumdar, (Aeronautical Development Establishment [ADE], Bangalore a department of the Defence Research Development Organisation [DRDO], India). My co-worker was Mr. Anoop Mishra from IIT Kanpur.
Communicated a paper titled An Object Oriented Fuzzy Data Model for Similarity Detection in Image Databases, accepted in 2002. IEEE Transaction on Knowledge and Data Engineering. This work was done under the guidance of Dr. A.K.Majumdar and my co-worker was Mr. Indrajit Bhattacharya.

I did my summer internship (a compulsory activity in the undergraduate curriculum of IIT Kharagpur), at the Aeronautical Development Establishment(ADE), Bangalore which is one of the many labs of the Defence Research Development Organisation(DRDO) of India. There I worked on depth estimation of an image by integrating multiscale edge features as well as region features. These features were extracted from a series of (typically two) airborne images. I did my work along with Mr. Anoop Mishra from IIT, Kanpur and under the guidance of Dr. Jharna Majumdar at ADE.
