I defended my PhD dissertation in October, 2009, and I am now a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Previously, I was a graduate student at the Department of Computer Science, Rice University, where I worked with Professor Luay K. Nakhleh from 2006 to 2009.

I was born and grew up in Việt Nam. My full name in Vietnamese is Thân Văn Cường. I did my undergraduate work at Hanoi University of Technology. In 2005, I was awarded a fellowship from the Vietnam Education Foundation to study in the U.S.

My research interests are in the area of bioinformatics, particularly phylogenetics.
