Job Hunting, May 1998

I recently accepted a job offer from Rice University's Department of Computer Science, but it was a pretty difficult decision to make. Over the course of my job search, I did a whole lot of travelling.

Boston South Station

While interviewing at MIT, I had a chance to visit my mom's side of the family.

While making my second visit to Rice, it was cheaper if I spent a few extra days there (the zaniness of buying tickets less than seven days from when you fly). That meant spending Memorial Day either picking my nose or finding people with whom to hang out. Paula was nice enough to set me up with her old Houston friends: MattNet. Despite never having met a one of these folks before, I joined them on a road trip to Austin and had a blast.

Whereas, on my second visit to Utah, they made sure to take me rock climbing in Moab, a short four-hour drive from Salt Lake City. Note the line to be photographed in front of Delicate Arch. That's me sitting in front of it.

John, my intrepid guide, took me to Wall Street to climb. Just in case you thought rock climbing was zany, check out the folks base jumping over us.
