XStopwatch Dual Licensing

XStopwatch follows the dual licensing model used by MySQL, Sleepycat, and many other prominent software projects. The dual licensing model is based on the principle of fair exchange or Quid pro Quo ("something for something"). The dual licensing model offers you a choice of either an open source license or a commercial license. This model is becoming common as a sustainable way to support open source development over time.

From a licensing perspective, there are two different products depending on usage and distribution, though technically they have the same source code. XStopwatch's dual licensing options include:

• The GNU Public License (GPL). This allows you to offer your software under an open source/ freeware license to allow all who wish to use, modify, and distribute it freely. The GPL allows you to use the software at no charge under the condition that if you use XStopwatch code in an application you redistribute, the complete source code for your application must be available and freely redistributable under reasonable conditions. • A commercial license. This is for organizations that do not want to release the source code for their applications as open source / freeware; in other words, they do not want to comply with the GPL. Contact me if you would like to negotiate a commercial license to XStopwatch.

Of course, you can download, inspect, and test the XStopwatch code under the GPL before you might consider negotiating a commercial license.
