Guohui Wang is a third-year Ph.D. student in the System Group of  Dept. of Computer ScienceRice University. Before coming to

Rice, Guohui received a M.S. in Computer Science from Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering

from University of Science and Technology of China. His research interests lie in networking and distributed systems,

the advisor is Prof T. S. Eugene Ng.

Internet Delay Space

Understanding the characteristics of the Internet delay space (i.e. the all-pairs set of static round-trip propagation delays among edge networks

in the Internet) is important for the design of global-scale distributed systems. We analyze several properties of the Internet delay space, such as DK,

growth metric and Triangle inequality violations (TIV). Based on our measurement and analysis, we designed a Delay Space Synthesizer

[DS2 homepage] to provide a simple and compact model for the simulation of the Internet delay space. Furthermore, We particularly studied the

characteristics of TIVs in the Internet delay space, and the impacts of TIVs on representative neighbor selection mechanisms, and proposed a TIV

alert service to reduce the impact of TIVs.
