Background

I am an adjunct assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at Rice University. Previously, I was a research scientist in the Polymorphic Robotics Laboratory at ISI. Before that, I was a postdoctoral research associate in Lydia Kavraki's Physical and Biological Computing Group and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the W.M. Keck Center for Computational Biology. As a graduate student, I used to be a member of the Manipulation Lab, which is a part of Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute.

Recent activities

• Together with Willow Garage, we organized a tutorial on motion planning for real robots at IROS 2011.
• The Open Motion Planning Library (OMPL) has been released. Use it with or without ROS.
• Matt Mason has put together a “greatest hits” video of research done in CMU's Manipulation Lab. My work on tactile reconstruction of shape and motion is featured around 0:49, 3:57, and 4:32.
• Our LabelHash server for protein motif matching is now live!
• I helped organize a workshop on protein structure, kinematics, and motion planning at the 2009 “Robotics: Science & Systems” conference.
