Update: In October 2011, I joined the HPC group (whose website is woefully out of date) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
Nathan Tallent is a research scientist in the Computer Science department at Rice University. Most recently, he was a graduate student advised by John Mellor-Crummey (Aug. 2005 – Mar. 2010).
His job is quite difficult. Officially, it may “require long hours of sitting.” He must also display “courtesy, tact, consideration and discretion in all interactions with [others].”
Accordingly, after displaying curtsies courtesy to everyone he sees, he sits down to work.
His research focus is performance analysis of parallel programs.
In particular, he has worked on performance measurement, attribution, analysis and presentation of multithreaded and petascale programs.
Sometimes, it seems that he has separation anxiety from HPCToolkit.
You will be sorry to hear that he does not have a Facebook page (and therefore cannot be your ‘friend’). Nor does he have much interest in blogging or tweeting. He sounds very much like a discourteous Luddite.
Perhaps one day he will not be funded with soft money.
