Lewis, Meel receive REA Awards

Cannon Lewis, CS and Mathematics ’18, and alumnus Kuldeep Meel, CS  Ph.D. ’17, have received awards from the Rice Engineering Alumni (REA). Each year, REA provides scholarships, grants awards to outstanding students and alumni.

Lewis, who won the senior merit award and the award for distinguished research excellence, said he wants to use the awards to support his research.

“I am tremendously grateful and humbled to have received these awards. I believe that academic achievement is fundamental to conducting creative and worthwhile research, and I am grateful to the REA for acknowledging this perspective. I intend to use these awards to support and further my research, both at Rice and this summer at the Army Research Lab in Adelphi, Maryland.” Lewis said.

Meel won the Ralph Budd Award for research in Engineering. The award is given to the best doctoral thesis in the School of Engineering.

"I am deeply honored to receive the award, which is a testament to the extraordinary environment focused on excellence offered by Rice and in particular my thesis advisors, Prof. Supratik Charkaborty and Prof. Moshe Vardi. I would not have pursued graduate school had it not been for Moshe's encouragement and belief in me," Meel said.
