Shortly after Hurricane Harvey dropped more than 51 inches of rain on Houston and Southeast Texas, a team of five Rice University students and alumni leaped into action.
“What makes HackRice unique is that it is first and foremost for Rice University undergrads,” said its founder, Computer Science alumnus Waseem Ahmad, who returns each year to help support the event.
HackRice 7, the seventh annual 48-hour event hosted by Rice University's Computer Science Club, attracted over 450 participants and almost $50,000 in donations.
In July 2017, two Rice University computer science faculty members received prestigious awards from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the largest organization dedicated to the educational and scientific work and accomplishments of computing professionals.
Lauren Khoo, a recent Rice University alumna, was named the recipient of the Computer Science Department's annual Jason Chahin Innovation and Excellence Award.
Two upperclass Computer Science students were recently recognized for their academic excellence.
