other photos, notes on taking good dance photography
I had so much fun two years ago that I just couldn't say no to going back for more. I spent less time taking pictures this year than I did two years ago, but I did use my camera's cheesy video function to try to help me remember the moves.

Fort Worden has the most amazing view of the Puget Sound.

Reuven Lax and Dano

Mira Fisher and Jim Salminen get goofy

Sadly, still pictures can never quite capture the motion of dancers. Shawn Hirshey has all kinds of crazy moves that I want to steal from him. (And I'd love to see him dancing with his amazing sister, Betina.)

Oh, and those dance videos. Here are assorted videos from the advanced level, whatever that means. These (obviously) don't look as good as the instructors, but they're better than any notes I could have taken on paper. You probably need QuickTime installed to view these. File sizes vary from 8 to 20MB, so don't try this over a modem unless you're really patient.

Steven & Virginie's basic routine (with me screwing up the slide at the end)

Jason & Sylvia's opening routine

Kevin & Carla's funky double-turn variations (plus me screwing up the guy underarm turn)

More insanity from Jason & Sylvia (in the audio, you can hear everybody reminding us which moves come next)

Jason & Sylvia's Advanced Balboa I

Continuing insanity from Jason & Sylvia (note the confusion at the end)

Jason & Sylvia's Advanced Balboa II (with Solomon having some trouble on the paddle turns)

Eddie & Eva's deliberately stepped routine

Rob & Dianne's routine with the hip popping

Another take on Rob & Dianne's hip poping routine. Turn the girl before the guy goes.

Another Kevin & Carla routine with the weird Texas Tommy variation.

And, finally, two attempts at Eddie & Eva's fast swingouts.
